King Alfred

The now decaying King Alfred leisure centre on Hove sea front, first opened during the 1930′s. Having served the public for over seventy years, the site has recently been earmarked for redevelopment. A Frank Gehry designed structure, incorporating a new sports complex along with 754 apartments at an estimated cost of £290 million, has been proposed for the site and is looking ever more likely of being approved by the local council. The landmark development, designed by a world famous architect, threatens to erase from memory the outdated and crumbling leisure centre.
